Aww… it didn’t work. Humph.

Some person (Who will remain unnamed) has decided to take ownership of #smc so we have now moved to ##smc on irc.freenode.com.
Thank you.

Please refrain from posting anything other then a completed smc

hi firebird
we need to set down some ground rules (so i think) for the channel
we need to set down a thing where we can say how to join IRC (i saw some posts about people who would do it but couldnt join SMC channel)

@raytray25: You mean something like this?

How to join #smc
Step #1: Install any IRC-Application you like mIRC,
Chatzilla, …

Step #2: Usually you have to set a nickname when starting the application. This will be your nickname on the channel.

Step #3: Type the following commands into the command line of your IRC-Application:
/server irc.freenode.net
/join #smc

Thats it. Now you can start chatting and have a lot fun doing speed modelling contests.

If you want further information about IRC you can read this IRC-Tutorial.

prefect

I cant actually find the channel at all…

ah, finally found it, sorry

I built an explanatory website concerning SMC’s (thanks friedbrain for the background image). I hope it will be of help to some of you.

Explanatory SMC site

tmr232.

important- the website only renders correctly in Firefox.

EDIT:
new url for the site (on a new host): http://s-m-c.co.nr

if you have any suggestions, PM me.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The Speed Modeling Community now has a wiki page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_Modelling_Contest

That Wikipedia page has too many Blender references.

of course, this speed modelling contest are based in a Blender3D community. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_Modelling_Contest#Other_Places_to_SMC for other place to SMC if you wanna do it outside of Blender3D though it is ok to use other software in the SMC here sometime.

Well, I’m sure Blender’s is not the only community that does SMCs. I’m just saying that the article shouldn’t point out to too many Blender sites (CVS builds? #smc in Freenode? Blender Battles?), because it makes it look a bit too Blender-centric.

Our smcs are not blender only, all apps accepted…

Sup,

Is it possible to take part in a SMC without using IRC??

Not really… The bot on irc is made to create the posts so you have to be on the channel for it to register you. There are plenty of free clients for irc though (like chatzilla) and it really doesn’t take long to get into the rythm of things
