I’m trying to render an animated scene using alpha transparency to create holes / shapes in walls. The scene isn’t that complex, very low polygon count, but it’s taking far too long to render. I think the issue is when there are several materials with alpha transparent textures in front of each other, and in some cases there are probably 20+ layers. Is there anything I can do to speed up render? I’m using internal as the quality is fine for this particular project, I will try Cycles but don’t expect it to be any faster.

Thanks for any help.

I would investigate your design and see if there might be a way to eliminate some of the transparencies.
