So apparently Spielberg has finally gotten his Tintin movie project to a state, when they can go to pre production.
I don’t care that much about the actual comic by itself, I’ve always liked Asterix better, but the project caught my eye, when it was reported, that it will be a trilogy, first movie directed by Spielberg himself and second one by Peter Jackson and to top it off, Tintin and other characters will be created digitally in the same manner as Gollum was.
Jackson said, that the goal is to produce photorealistic Tintin, which still looks like the original character from Herge’s comics.
Might turn out good, at least it will look interesting.
I have always been a fan of Tintin (but I liked Asterix more, like you), so I was glad to hear about this. The 3D character idea sounds like they’re overdoing it a bit.
Speaking of Tintin and Asterix, they seem a bit related. In fact, in a Tintin book there was somebody dressed up as Asterix, and in an Asterix book, Thomson and Thompson made an appearance. Were the authors friends or something?
Both Aterix and Tintin belong in the group of Franco-Belgian comics, which are stylistically somewhat similar (not always though) and they both were created during the same era. I’m not sure how well Herge, Goscinny and Uderzo knew each other, but as they all heve done work for same magazines and publishers they have had at least professional respect towards each other.
Goscinny worked for/with Hergé at Le Journal de Titin (Tintin’s newspaper) wich was a comic book magazine started by Hérge (and LeBlanc).
I hope the result will be good cuzz they have been milking out every last penny of Tintin the last years with rereleases and releases of non finished works…
But it was Hergé’s wich that Spielberg did a movie so that’s good.
And I have the intergral Tintin and Astérix collection as should every person…
I’m kind of a passive Tintin fan myself (my brother is an avid) so I’ll be watching the progress of this very closely. The idea of a realistic-but-still-looks-like-original CG character strikes me as sounding kind of creepy though. They had better do a good job, or else this could get literally ugly.
Yeah, it might turn out horrible, but I hope they’ve done some kind of tech demo out of it, so they have an idea of what they are getting into with a promises like that.
But it will be rather interesting to see what they come up with, as the basic shape of Tintins head is a round ball and that doesn’t scream out photoreal.
