Spike Spiegel WIP

Hello, this is my first serious attempt on human figure sculpting, rigging etc, i am actually trying to create a “realistic” version of cowboy bebop’s Character spike Spiegel, since it comes from an anime witch has a very iconic but low detailed design i have lot of room for “bend it”.

The fist attempt i made was more similar to the anime, but i soon realized that what i wanted was a somekind of “beliveble” character, so i changed his traits in order to make him an actual person (or at least that is my hope).

so, instead of the classical clean face he shows i’m going to put in lot of tiny scars and tissue damages as it should be since he gets punched-beaten-shooted every 2 episodes.
those are my progresses so far, i am adding details to the face:


any suggestion is welcome, i am really new to sculpting so don’t be afraid of pointing out obvoius things, there might not be so obvious for me.
this is the face at “rest” i thought to add the classical “cynical” expression by mean of fully riggin the face and make expressions out of it

i suppose i still have to add details and then texture it, my problem here is that i have really no idea on how to create the spec map for this kind of model, am i supposed to draw handly in gimp or do you know any smarter way? it seems i can’t find anything on the argument.
