Well, it is not really difficult if you use the good tools and reference.
Iāve started with a blue print found on suurland.com. It is poor quality but was presenting cross sections of the body.
So I draw the curves without any details even not the canopy, taking care that all sections have the same number of vertices, so that filling is easy.
For the wing, I knew it was NACA 2200 profile (you can found many profiles on free databases on the internet, search for āSelig NACAā for example), so I draw one and extrude, taking care to never move a vertex, always resize only. All planes of the pre-computer era have a constant profile along the wing, this not true for modern planes
I weld the two and now have a basic shape wih proper proportions, ready for detailling. It is done using knive and loop select for cutting parts of the mesh then welding more detailled ones created outside of the main mesh.
I try to avoid at all cost triangles, especially fine ones that can never be smoothed completly
I work only with subsurfaces level 2 in opimal mode.
Never fear to undo and delete something which is not to your taste
Cativo, yes I will add all control surfaces, propeller blades landing gearā¦
On the front is a mouth, with bright white triangular teeth, and bright red inside. From the front, it curves up, and then starts to curve back down as it tapers off. Nice job btw.
As a blender noob, just started, I thing u ought to make a tutorial on this one since that spitfire is really very well done!
Post some screenshots with steps in the forum, I think a lot of poeple in my situation would appreciate that . I think itās one of those projects that gets noobs into learning the tools more quicklyā¦
Well, it would be quite pretentious to post a tutorial when this project is my 2nd one with blender.
I must however add that Iām very experienced with 3D for a living and for my leasures, but I had never worked with meshes before, I make technical drawings.

If u dont do it, nice job stillā¦
I will try to post a lot of steps when I do the hurrricane sidekick.
<Modron> I see the one you are thinking of, but it is not the one and I even think it was not spitfire but typhoons
whats the plane for? an animation? a still? will there be fighting? I like the start of your model and would like to say that the plane doesnāt have any flaws as of now. Keep up the good work.
thanks, But there is some flaws, they are now not very visible yet but will show up with final texturing, i fear.
I planned a still featuring a spit wing (4 planes) escorting hurricanes fitted with torpedoes above north Sea, hence the search for scapa flow paint scheme.
Iām also pleased with the way modelling is turning and may make a serie, I just need to model Fw190 and Bf109 too.
Oh, yes thanks. I donāt know many things about Aussies and RAAF against Japaneeses. I mainly know about RAF and Free Frenchs ones (Iām french).
Iāve seen another picture of a plane with RAF markings, which was a typhoon I think, who bore the teeths. Perhaps it was an aussie too, there was many of them in england.
Anyway, itās a mk VIII and if the body is very similar to the XII (except tail) the wing is different at the tips and armement I think, so is the engine (griffon on the XII) a bit longer and with bulbs on the side. I like to be historicaly acurate when possible.
If I cannot find scapa paint scheme, I will make the normal European sea camo (dark grey and green)
I donāt know if I can help with a tutorialā¦ but all I did was render the P-51 with a type of number grid that you see a lot in this forum, made it myself to fit my needsā¦ High res and a lot of different color coding so I knew where everything was going. Then took a good reference picture that had the panels laid out, put it over the grid and scaled it to fit where everything needed to be, and started going at it placed all the panels put in screws, rivetsā¦ I was a little afraid to make it too deep, but come to find out; itās not such a bad idea. Just be sure to blur everything a LITTLE bit, sharp edges for some reason donāt look right especially for a bump map. I figured that out after talking to Landis about it.
Other then thatā¦ just keep messing with it. Sometimes experimenting with things can give you some good surprises.
Here is a really good tutorial on modelling and also surfacing aircraft. Its for lightwave but you can take the ideas and modify for blender no problem
