Split Area Mac OSX

I’m right at the beginning of “Blender for Dummies” and it says I can add a new window by right-clicking on a seam and choosing “Split Area” from the menu that pops up. But… No menu pops up. I’m on a Mac Mini using a 3 button mouse. What ought I try to create a new window?

Hover you mouse over a window edge until it becomes a double arrow, then right mouse click and select Split Area or drag the small triangles in the corners of the window

I cannot select that option because no menu pops up. I believe this is because I am using OSX.

That tutorial is for Blender 2.49 and before.
It sounds like you have blender 2.5 or above.
Open your Blender and look in the upper right or lower left corners of one of the windows (like the 3D window for instance).

you should see a little spot with three diagonal lines Grab that with your mouse and move it;
– INTO the window it’s in to split the window
–AWAY From the window, into an existing window of equal border size, to JOIN two windows.

Here is a good site to see that and other changes with pics. (it’s clearer than I’ve been in describing it); http://www.blenderguru.com/whered-that-button-go/

Solved!

Thanks a bunch! :smiley:

Also, am I correct in thinking that the “no header” option isn’t there anymore because headers are now their own windows?

I cannot select that option because no menu pops up. I believe this is because I am using OSX.

Well so am I in the video so its not your operating system.

You can drag the header closed and clicking on that little [+] in the corner will open it again.
(the first time I grabbed a header by mistake I didn’t know about that + and it drove me nuts. :o ).
