Spot Lighting wont show up on render.

Hey, I am trying to get this spot lighting to light up my scene like the sun. The problem is that my render is completely black. But when I put the spot light real close it brightly lights up a small portion of my scene. The thing that stumps me is the fact that in shaded view the light seems to affect the scene when far away but not in the render…

Anyone know what is causing this and how to solve it? Light strength is set to 7. I’ve also scaled up the light and made the circle larger. There is a line that comes out of the light in the direction of the ray that I think might have something to do with it, but I’m not sure how to solve this problem.

Thanks for any replies.

There should be a slider right by the preview at the top that says “Dist”. Set this to a higher value.

Okei, so I did what you said and changed that value from its original 20 to 330. This changed nothing… I am at a complete loss here… :frowning:

Hummm, spot light like the sun? Why not use the sun light than. Your scene may be too large for the spot light. And, the line that comes out of the light should be pointing at the target.

Blender lights are not realistic. They have to actually touch the surface to cause any light to appear upon them. Make sure all your scales are correct. Select everything and apply visual transformations. Make sure the distance of the spotlight passes through the mesh you want to light.

Only other thing that may cause that kind of problem is mixing up layers. What kind of layer setup do you have?

And when you’re using buffer shadow the ‘Clipsta’ and ‘Clipend’. Make sure they contain your scene (or set them to ‘auto’ by pressing the car icon)
