hey thats not a bad stapler at all looks like it needs the little roating thing on the base where the staples bend the the right shape i am problely not discribing this right but hey i theres a reason i had to study to pass 3rd grade j/k ;). anyway the black lines you are seeing is that a few of your normals are pointing in the wrong direction with is a pritty easly fixed problem all you have to do is select your model go in to edit mode select all your verts by pressing A on your keyboad then hit ctrl N then click ok to the box that opens. or wile you have the verts selected you can click the mesh buttin on the 3d window then go up to normals then recalculate outside. and that sould fix it. well i better stop typeing before i start to ramble (to late) hope it helps have a good one
.
i think the top part is meant to be a bit longer than the bottom
i already tried recalculating the normals but that didnt help… i think ill view them and flip them manually if thats really the problem
EDIT: I just checked them and there’s nothing wrong i thought it had to do with the mirror modifier but when I applied it, both black areas were still there so I really dont know what the problem is BTW I know im missing the stapler-bending plate but I left the indent there so that i can put it in. I find it easier to make separate objects rather than use multiple materials on the same object. Is that a bad idea? I also plan on putting the rubber bottom onto it as well. more crits would be wonderful thanks guys
EDIT #2: I found that changing the lamp to an area lamp gets rid of the front corner black area but its not a shadow because I have shadows turned off… really weird. Anyway i’m going to ignore the black places until they become a problem and I’m just going to add the stuff I’m missing and clean up the model. How do you render wireframes so you guys can help me with my modeling? well more comments would be awesome thanks.
well you know when it comes to the black lines if you wnat to post the blend file i will take a look at it for you see if i can figure it out i figure its somthing simple my other theory as to whats couseing it is you have a face in there that is overlapign really tight or maybe a misplaced edge. as for the wireframe you can ether in the material tab theres a wire buttin you could rerender with that and check it out or you can take screen shots of your model in wire view. its a looks like a pritty desent model not super high detail but still cool. when it comes to simple models like this the material makes or breaks the model as is the case with most models. at anyrate i will signoff before i get to long and windy
how do I upload the .blend? I don’t have any webspace that will allow that filetype.
Good model. Now, put it in three-point lighting and vary the colors on those lights. Glitches like the black-spot will sort themselves out.
Also… get the thing outa my face.
Pull the camera back a little… I want to see it, not eat it.
I don’t really know how to set up good lighting so if anyone could help on that or point me to a tut that would be great. I can also see what you mean on the camera placement so I’ll fix that. I’m going to start on the textures as soon as you guys look over the .blend and you can download that here: http://www.samguzman.com/upload/data/stapler.blend
umm… excuse me… um… i believe you have my stapler…

anyway, its looking pretty cool. I forget the tut but for lighting, you basically need 3 good lights, a backlight, most likely a blue light you use to make where your other shadows have some light, so you put it facing toward all your other lights, the other two lights are for specularity and for diffuse. depending on your scene you place these in different places, the best way to learn about lighting, is to try and figure it out, I also reccomend not using a white light. almost nowhere in life do we see pure white light… so maybe a warm yellow, or red could do the trick.
well i looked at your model abit it the topoligy is pritty ruff i would personaly recomend redoing the base. anyway i think i fixed it looks like some of your verts where over laping so i just smoothed it out abit and seemed to fix it. i also added abit of shine to the stapeler just couse i could not help myself. anyway heres the link. http://www.samguzman.com/upload/data/stapler1.blend
enjoy.
