Stargate

Wow, no wonder it takes you so long to fill in… That’s incredible!

Edit: Why don’t try removing doubles? It would be faster, and you can set it to remove doubles in a wider area, so it will count two verts that are even close to each other as a double.

Because it would get rid of verts inside my arch that I still want. I’ve only been at gap filling for about an hour and ten minutes and I’m about 1/4 done, so it shouldn’t be too bad.

Ah, I see… The result should be pretty good.

I’m still not doing that, but only because my computer can’t handle it. My graphics card is slow with the number of verts I have now, it would crash if I doubled the amount… What type of graphics card do you have?

NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX 440 with AGP8x - 64 Megs

I also have 1.5 Gigs of RAM.

[Edit] I think I’m done for tonight, I’m just over 1/4 done with the gaps. After those are done, I will select the inner and outer edge loops individually, extrude, cancel the extrude, then scale to get the rest of the ring face.

[Edit 2] Any of you non-Tynach people out there have any C&C’s?

I’m taking a break from gap filling for a while. I started modelling the design between the symbol ring and event-horizon. After I have this straight section modelled I will warp it an appropriate amount, spin-dup, and remove doubles.

Hey LOTR…

Where did you manage to find that background design image? Or is that your own creation?

Cujo

BTW… love the V grooves and the attention to detail

The same place I got most of my other reference pics. It came with the model I downloaded from the site I pointed out in this post.

[Edit] phew Thank God! I found a way to fill my gaps without doing it by hand. I deleted all my arches except for one. Then I warped the top and bottom edges of the remaining arch to 1/312th of a circle. Duplicate and hand rotate once, then spin-dup 156 times. Remove doubles, VOILA! Gap filling done.

I’ll be impressed if you know the correct answer to this question: Was it the extended editions that you watched?

[Edit] This is the first time I’ve had the patience to render a full, 10 second, 250 frame animation of the event-horizon. dl link

No, they weren’t. I’ve seen the extended editions before, and they were not the extended edition.

that’s very cool looking! nice render. i wonder how long did it take to render?

It’s good, but something is wrong with this computer, and the event horizon is green, with blue shadows to both sides… Could you make it avi jpg?

15 minutes render or so. Not long really, but normally I don’t have that much patience when I just want to see how something will look. Tynach, You need to see all 3 extended editions in a row RIGHT now. 12 hours of fun, fun, fun.

[Edit] It is avi jpg. :frowning:

[Edit 2] WEEEEEEEEE! 500 posts!

… Hmm… I’ll put it on my computer then… Guess my mom’s computer can’t handle the only video compression mine can… Litterally goes to the blue screen of death if I show any other video type. Even other .avi’s.

Like I say, I’ve seen the extended editions. They’re great!

Reminds me of other movie’s extended editions… Star Wars’ had a scene where you could see a pepsi can on the floor. Wonder if there’s anything like that in the Lord of the Rings extended edition… Too bad I don’t have it :(.

It won’t let me select the inner and outer edge loops on my arches! Guess I’ll have to hand select all the way around…

That or try removing doubles… Maybe there’s something in there blocking it…

I already removed doubles.

… Have you tried recalculating normals?

Just tried that, it’s not working. I hand selected the outer edge loop, extruded, and scaled a little bit. When I try to select this new edge loop, Blender crashes. Anybody know what’s going on?

I think I do, but it’s not fixable… I think it has too many edges to select, so it doesn’t select them. I might and probably am wrong, but that’s my theory. It does the same thing to me. Try extruding your original two, and spin dup that.

nevermind…
