Startup.blend error?

Each time I open blender I get this command prompt looking box that saids:

Info: Config directory with “Startup.blend” file not found.
Found Bundled python: C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.58\Python

Idk whats the 2nd part either. Do I need to download Python? Where do I, if i have to?
Also whats a “Startup.Blend”?

edit Ok I found out i did need python. now i have a problem that each time i touch the user perspective screen section thing. The program crashes.

I had the same problem. If you find it anoying, you can fix it by doing File/Save User Settings. That’ll create a new startup.blend file.

could you please explain this to a complete noob???

From the menu at the top of the blender window go to File / Save User Settings (shortcut key Ctrl+U). This will create a new startup.blend file.

hey i have the same thing going on but it will not let me even start blender

Same problem as Ferret. I just get the one message about not being able to find startup.blend… and then Blender immediately crashes. How can I solve this problem?

I got it to work. I had downloaded the 32 bit version instead of 64 like I needed. I still got the error when it loaded but… it actually opened this time and I immediately saved a profile so I shouldn’t get the error in the future.

I’m getting this same error. I stopped using blender for a few weeks (didn’t uninstall) but when I came back I got the config error and blender crashed. I uninstalled/reinstalled, used older versions, used the .zip file, and nothing has worked so far. (I’m on 64 bit.)

perhaps try a newer build on graphicall.org?

“ndof: dead zone set to 0.10”

What the hell does that mean?

I’m having troubles with the 64 bit version of the current versions of blender (any latest version I grab from graphic all seem to have that problem with my laptop, dunno about my desktop). Resetting it back to an older restore point seemed to fix the problem, however half a day later, without changing anything afaik the problem is back. Basicly blender crashes on start up, after displaying “ndof: dead zone set to 0.10” (@cory2077 which is part of the 3d connexion mouse drivers apperently which are included in 2.59 and up).

I have version 2.59 installed on Windows 8 Developer Preview on a PC and on my laptop. Both work fine. I installed on my Samsung Slate and started getting this very same error message about startup.blend not being found. I am very new to blender - really don’t even know how to use it yet. Anyway, I am not new to Windows so I did some hunting around on the file systems of each computer and noticed that on my Samsung Slate (the computer that is giving me the problem) that the following directory was not created: C:\Users\FrankieC\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.59\config so I created it manually. When I tried to launch Blender I still got the same error. After rebooting, I finally got into the app. I did not have to reboot any of my other computers to Blender to launch so there must be a permissions issue with the install process on some machines that causes the folder to not be created? That’s a guess on my part. I looked for some log files but they were huge and do not have time to parse them right now. Just as an FYI, I also tried running Blender explicitly as the administrator (right-click->run as administrator) and had the same issue. Creating the directory and rebooting fixed it for me.

well, this thread basically got me to figure out the answer to my issue. I wasn’t able to open from recent and then found to be missing my user appdata blender foundation file path. So I generated it manually to no success. I then read to save user settings, which is actually under File, then Defaults, then save startup file. I guess ctrl U works too. Then I found that I didn’t have permissions set under the C:\programs\blender foundation folder correctly because running as admin didn’t fix but is still apart of the fix. I then allowed security permissions to the file path C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation by right clicking the blender foundation folder and going to the security tab under properties and setting to Full control. I was then able to save a new startup and then had access to recent files. Awesome. Thanks everyone. You all rock. However, one last thing. I had to make the run as admin permanent for I had to run as admin every time, so here are the instructions for that.

Always Run as Administrator from Program Shortcut

Right-click on the shortcut of Blender, and then select Properties from the context menu. In the Properties window, select the Shortcut tab, and click on the Advanced button. Check the box next to Run as administrator and click OK.
