Starving Artist

I’ve been playing around with the camera and the lighting a lot with this one. I have to admit tough - I haven’t added the star of the show yet…that’s 3-4 coins in that jar. I’m gonna add those and some planters on the opposite block. I like the way the scene is headed till now, but critics are definitely accepted! Fire away!

More samples are definitely needed. Glass tends to add a lot of noise to cycles scenes, it can be balanced out with a variety of kind of useful solutions, or an extreme amount of samples. Eraser cover (made of paper) needs a texture in my opinion. I also think that the windows could be improved, maybe model them a bit higher poly and add some good textures? Windows usually aren’t straight blue like that, as far as I can tell. Wallpaper needs to be unwrapped on the window’s wall, it kind of cuts off and doesn’t look very good. The lighting definitely needs to be improved, I think the lighting can add a lot to this scene if done properly. Maybe change the time of day and if you are up to it, try compositing in some volumetric rays? Its somewhere in this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipYiwUmBfs8 . Its relatively easy (that might have been my 1st cycles scene, completed without trouble) but it will take a lot of time. Its also good to make a color scheme for your project, most people prefer to balance between 3 main colors or less but it seems all you have is that red and some bauge. You could add a plant to the scene. One more thing I noticed, is that the pencils are up against the camera, and if that was on a table, they would be on the edge about to fall off. Placement of things seem random. Hope you find some of this useful, sorry no one else said anything.

Thanks - I’ll see to those problems! Actually I had put the sun casting light towards the window, but that made the block opposite dark. I’m going to add some grunge texture to the walls and use spec maps for the window. I was about to use bump and norm maps on the glass (of the window) but that made it look black, even with the IOR turned to 0.
