Stationary water particles splash

Hi blenderartists

I’m after the effect of hundreds of stationary particles of water in the air being splashed through. An example of this effect I can think of off the top off my head are the way quicksilver runs through water particles with particles splashing when they come in contact with his skin. Can be found here (great scene by the way).

The particles by themselves could be easily done with a particle system, but the way they interact with a moving object through them is the challenge.

Any ideas?

You could set up a fluid sim, then bake it and convert to a mesh. Then delete the unwanted geometry.
