Steam Deck Animation Loop

A little animated GIF I made to test whether I could use Blender on my Steam Deck via the Desktop Mode. It’s not ideal–using Blender with a game controller made me seriously miss and appreciate using hotkeys to speed up everything on my more powerful/conventional laptop setup, and of course because even Eevee with raytracing off runs slow as molasses on the battery-powered handheld, this was also a challenge for me to use fake/baked lighting and textures (as you can see by the blob shadow below the character) to still look kind of decent even without dynamic ANYTHING. But it’s still cool that I can use Blender at all on what is primarily a Steam-centric gaming handheld.

The little guy’s name is “Flopsy,” by the way.

When the steam deck was first announced, “Mobile Blender” was literally the first thought on my mind. It’s cool that you actually explored this.

Fittingly enough, my first experience with animation ever was FlipNote Studio for the Nintendo DSi, so I do sort of have past experience working with weird animation software on handheld gaming devices! Blender on Steam Deck is far more capable than the original version of Nintendo’s FlipNote Studio, of course.
