Steganography

I was wondering something… I have been playing with steganography… and wondered if it can be done in blender to put your own watermark in the rendered videos??? or if this should be an option… or new feature…

Also who here has done steganography…

Who likes it…

Who dislikes it…

and anything else…

I also wondered… how certain things are illegal and now adays… how much or what can I do with steganography that is legal… in the USA… I was just wondering with events that have happened if it was legal or not… and I can not find out much on this…

I had an idea at how to make steganography in a way that you would not be able to see or hear the noise of a hidden file… but will have to test it…

If I do get my idea to work… I will send my finding to people who are making anti steganography programs… even though I have not seen any program that can do the steganography that I am thinking of…

What are you talking about? I’m confused.

Well steganography is the hiding of data inside of a file… most of the time it is hiding the file by changing the binary code… this site talks some about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steganography
and also this site: http://www.infosyssec.org/infosyssec/security/stendig1.htm

I was wondering if… blender was going to have a way to hide a watermark inside a picture or video when it renders it… so that only the person who rendered the picture would have there watermark showing that that certain picture or video is theirs…

I also thought that this was interesting… of watermarking a 3d model…: http://citeseer.ist.psu.edu/ohbuchi98watermarking.html

This is also a nice picture steganography program if you want to try it some…: http://hide-in-picture.sourceforge.net/

Hopefully that helps describe it some…

Stenography is not strong encryption by any stretch of the imagination and is farily easily found, so I doubt it would be illegal.

I had an idea at how to make steganography in a way that you would not be able to see or hear the noise of a hidden file… but will have to test it…

Unless it is encrpyted first, statistical analysis should reveal it.

Any compressed file is hard to add sten to, perhaps in the motion vectors in mpegs?

Also… if you just typed it wrong… but Stenography is different then Steganography…

I am not sure how you would do the motion vectors stego… I don’t know exactly what the motion vectors are right now… I don’t remember… but I had an idea on how to get…well… as an example in a normal stego program… if I had a picture that was 1000 kilabytes and hid a file that was 500 kilabytes… you would see a good bit of noise in the picture… with the same example I think I know of a way, so that the picture would look pretty much exactly the same, and have no noise… or so little that you can not tell… I just have to make my own program to do it… and am working on that now…

Also most stego programs I have used, have some kind of encryption algorithom… now I do not know how hard it is to find hidden encrpyted data… but I hope that my way would be very hidden… but thinking on it… it still might be the same visibility if you tried finding it… but the picture or whatever would look exactly the same… so I think it would be harder…

Also if I can get it to work… I hope to be able to hide multiple files in one file… which I have done with the Hide-In-Picture program I mentioned above but that is mostly only for pics… and have it that I can backup data from my computer in much smaller files… so that I can store them easier…

As an example… I expect to be able to hide… a whole video sequence, probably even with sound… into a file as small as mabey 1000 kilabytes… or smaller… And be able to do this for any number of files…

So I just wondered if anyone else had dabbled in doing steganography, and if they had any suggestions…
