I found this awesome “anime style” step motion & constant interpolation animation tutorial by Pierrick Picaut (P2Design) and decided to give it a try.
Steps:
- Pierrick provided the char and the rig (through his website: https://www.p2design-academy.com/
- Edited the key poses
- Created the constant interpolation animation (step animation), with a longer loop.
- Added separate direct light for the muzzle
- Created hand painted muzzle VFX effects with Grease Pencil
- Added a HDRi
- Created a ground (plane) and created a material that fits the HDRi
- Slapped space craft on the background (because why not)
- Exported to Davinci (multi layered EXR)
- DaVinci Fusion (basic beauty pass for all channels, then tweaked the mist, film grain, etc)
- Generated sound effects using AI
Updated:
- Camera Shake from Blender was acting a bit weird in DaVici (because it added some automatic stabilization to the image), so I added separate camera shake effect layer in DaVinci.
- Rendered at 2520x1080p resolution (Original), for some weird reason the compression to 1080p did not work well.
Thoughts:
Overall this was super fun practice. Strongly recommend this for any animators out there.

Huge thanks to Pierrick, who provided the tutorial and the fully rigged model (I can’t believe this tutorial was free).
