Using the Node Editor, I’ve tried to make a stereogram but it just doesn’t seem to work
I use the setup as shown in the image.
The z-value ranges roughly from 8 to 12 (you can check in a render and click on a pixel to get RGBAZ data)
The value mappers map the z-value from 10 to 0 and -10 to 0 respectively,
which is then converted to a horizontal translation in the red and blue channel.
I think the problem is that the translators only work for the whole image, and not pixelwise. could there be any way to solve this? (or can you spot another error?)
you need to have two source images rendered from two cameras looking at the same focal point but side by side.
When i first set up for this, I used suzanne as a refrence for where my cameras should go. I put one at each of her eyes looking at an empty in my scene.
good thing there, but it would be a lot hotter if you could fake the displacement with nodes aswell…
that way you wouldn’t need to have two slightly different cameras (which is inconveniant in animations)
maybe if you rendered your objects on seperate layers and then use your technique it might work.
interesting… I may give this a shot too.
but having two cameras is probably easier if you set up your scene, animation and all with two camera but just have the right eye be the active camera, then add a new scene ( full copy ) and set the other camera active in that one. then add another scene (empty) to build your nodes in (make sure you add a camera to the empty scene or nothing will render).
