I started with photos of real bananas but realized that it was easier to draw the textures myself with Photoshop or Gimp.
Maps include Colour, Spec, and Bump. The four bananas are just the same one flipped around a bit.
I could have tweaked the texures a lot more, but then I realized that you never really finish doing that. So I took it to the point that I had proved to myself that I could UV map a reasonable banana and stopped.
That looks very good. One comment the traces of green and the dark spots imply two different things. On the one hand freshness and on the other parts going bad. Sorry very nik - pickie but I just noticed it. At any rate a very good job very banana looking.
Paradox
Very good work. You did a great job on the bananas, modeling and texturing.
I think some bump mapping to affect the normals will help. So would a different texture underneath the bananas. Right now the look like there are resting on venetian blinds. Normally I would not mention that but it stood out to me.
I agree. The original colour map was of a quite green banana, but then I wanted to add spots. I toned down the green, but perhaps not enough. In my defence, I have a banana in my kitchen at this very moment that has both spots and green areas!
Believe it or not, there is a bump map on it. I tried it turned up a bit, but the picture lost it’s “banana feel”. I think that most bananas are actually quite smooth.
As for the blinds. I think you are right. It was supposed to be a sort of bamboo mat, but it’s not that convincing.
No. As mentioned above, all the textures are hand painted. The colour is taken completely from the colour texture map (slider at %100).
I actually think they look amazing for modeled banana’s!
you don’t get a because!
The textures, although correct in every way… is missing some stringy effects which bananas have… the grains which run down them… if you could have slight brown/faint line (I mean FAINT) so we can see more bump to it… then the textures would be lush…
another problem I saw was the peeling part… the ‘top’… they seem way too thick… it looks like it’s crossed between a penguin aswell…
try and sort out the head … narrowing it slighty… maybe having to lengthen the banana more to get the correct proportions… but
WELLDONE :L)
oh… and if you took time to make the wooden mats below to seem real… adding seperate pieces of wood or maybe some bump … you could see my juice dripping inbetween the gaps!!
I can see the update to the banana texture, I think its improved. I think you should go with a wood base of some kind. But that’s only my opinion, not a must.
well I don’t like losing the wooden mat either… added a more natural feel to the picture…
these banana’s are great for stand alone… but I think they’d be perfect for scene decoration!! maybe you could make a bowl of fruit and get some practice in (apples, oranges, nuts) the different skins and bump mapping with a clear/decorated glass bowl with crisp light effects…
Saying all this the marble colour/reflections are great… now people can pick all day… but you actually made these and I can still say I’m impressed … good render [!]
