stop sign

Ive made a octagonal image and made a mesh the same shape and have applied the texture and it doesnt work. Have I got to make a square mesh and an octagonal stencil to make it look right or is there another way?

make an octogonal mesh, and uv-map the sign on, then apply an image texture, and map it to uv coordinates, and you should be good to go.
