Strange artifacts in renders

On some renders I use a manipped photo and transparency map as a backdrop and have noticed a strange thin white line around any objects in the foreground that cross in front of the backdrop. Any ideas on how to avoid? Can post an example if needed.

post an example.

sounds like fog…though, i need a gander.

I uploaded a pic with an example of what I mean, plus the original texture map and trans map for the wall. It’s a cool trick, based on the matte painting technique used by filmmakers for decades, if you can photo manip and have a good eye.

These white edges are actually nothing to do with the renderer.

This is from placing and anti-aliased edge on a background colour that is different to the background colour in your render. In other words your transparancies background looks like it was white. Why not change it to a colour that matches more closely the colour of your backdrop. You can run into trouble when your characters clothes etc match the colour of your backdrop though, soooo…

Better just include the background pic within Blender. No hassles then.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

I think you were on the right track, but after monkeying around, I found that by enabling the Unified Renderer, I was able to solve my problem. Thanks for your help, and use that trick. It can come in handy and provide a very nice effect sometimes. :O)
