I took a little break and came back to blender and started following old tutorials.
but at random when I make an adjustment the viewport will freeze. I can still move my mouse and change settings in the side panel however the viewport stays the same…
then I thought about changing the window size of the viewport, and when I did that I got some rather artistic failures.
Then This one:
The application saves and closes fine, and upon restart returns to normal. But every 5 flippin seconds I run into this, and it is getting a little old.
I am on an Ubuntu-like Linux computer with 16 core CPU (no gpu) and 16GB of ram.
I can’t think of any way this can be reproduced, but it has occurred even after a complete wipe of blender from my machine.

June EDIT: Since this thread still has all relavent info I figured making a new one would be pointless/spam.
Came post graduation, decided to finally start this up as a regular hobby but landed flat on my face with this same wall.
I have pretty much same stuff, swapped to Kali linux(complicated, but its what I got)
Versions that don’t work for me that I’ve checked are 2.93, 3.6, 4.0, and 4.1
Same symptoms, scene hits a certain size and every few actions, I hit the black viewport again. Change viewport window size and it bugs the heck out. Go to another page like sculpting, and same issue.
Honestly I expect this to be a hardware issue, but something like that is going to take a more bountiful funding than I’ll have for the next year or so, as I’ll just revamp my set-up for something like that.
If its a fix that may/ maynot work, I’d still like to hear the thought process.
I will be switching to something like Fedora here soon, so if that looks prosperous I’ll edit post on it.
