Strange mesh deformations in render

I am having trouble finding out what is causing the the strange mesh deformations (circled in pink) it only does this when i render the image and I know its not the texture because it did this before I applied any textures. I just recently found out it only does this when i select “set smooth” but then it doesn’t look as good when I turn it off? any answers? One other thing how do I make it not select the mesh on the other side of the model when I select faces with the B key that are on the side of the view?

Try this:
In edit mode select all vertices and (1) Ctrl+N to recalculate normals and (2) W>Set smooth (once or twice) to make entire mesh smooth.
