I’m having a strange problem when I save a standalone application. For some reason, everything looks grey when I make a standalone but not when inside Blender (see comparison shots). How can I fix this and what is causing this problem? Thanks.
In the screen shot, the top image is the game in Blender. The bottom image is the game in the standalone application.
By the way, the game’s almost done, I’ll need to post it soon!
Woah. That’s crazy. What version are you using? 2.43? I haven’t made runtimes with 2.43 yet, so I don’t know if there are any general problems like that. Also, what OS are you on? If you’re on Linux or Mac, it might be a platform specific problem that went unnoticed (doubtful, but possible).
I’ve noticed that issue myself. I haven’t been able to narrow down the cause myself, but I have found 2 “solutions” of sorts. One is to run with Blender Materials enabled, which is not always optimal. The other involves surrounding your entire level/skybox in another box. You can make the faces invisible if you like. That cures the grey issue everytime I’ve found, though not the most optimal approach, as you normally have to redraw the surrounding box everytime you change something within it. Odd, but that’s how I deal with it. Maybe they can narrow down this issue sometime with this info. Would really like it fixed.
I’ve also noticed that the image gets pretty messed up at the bottom of the legs of the tables (see screen shot). I’m running it on Mac OS Tiger PowerPC architecture, blender version 2.43. I just tried the game on my PC, and it is still grey. However, the table edges are not messed up on windows. What’s also strange is that the grey only seems to affect the blender materials, not the image textures.
I’ve also noticed that there are lines across some of the faces in the runtime. These do not appear when the game is run in Blender.
Spaztiq:
I already have blender materials enabled and the rectangle around the level didn’t seem to work. Are there any special properties that you must apply for that to work?
This problem is around for a very very long time. Before Erwin came in, I actually did report of this in the forum and compared a few scenes which were white/grey/black with the runtime version. I was quite disappointed when I saw the black turned into grey and white was not always really white, there was a big difference in the runtime and the same stuff inside blender. Althought Nor.J hacked the blenderplayer a bit in notepad, stripped some lines and there was the problem solves. But that worked with the blenderplayer from 2.25, afther that I think the ugly hack wasn’t working anymore.
I’m just curious if this will be ever fixed without the need for an ugly hack. Maybe someone will look at it when the Ogre stuff comes into play.
Do the table leg polygons go through the floor? I get the funny edges thing where surfaces intersect, so if the table legs go through the floor, try changing it so they sit on top of it.
