nice! the reflections are good, but maybe a little strong and ‘rough’. the leaves arent subdivided enough and look plastic.
the shallow DOF and the fact that the background strawberries are completely blurred makes them look like two separate pictures almost. what if you added a strawberry infront of the in-focus one and pushed one of the background berries closer to the focal plane?
cant wait for the next blender version for sure…
I agree with Stompin, another thing is the shadows on the bottom right of the strawberry seem to dark, and the shadow that should be between the leaves and the strawberries are none existant… seems like there should be some shadows there.
edit: its not the shadow of the strawberry, its the diffuce level on the unlit side of the strawberries… it just seems like it shouldn’t be black
enter the splash screen contest now!!
i agree. tweak it some more, get it looking perfect cuz that would definitely be a killer splash page.
EDIT: a fill light coming from the right would brighten up the dark side. the background and scene setup read as highkey, but the strawberries themselves dont which gives that CG feeling (huge bright background/scene but still dark black shadows on objects, yano?)
I think it looks pretty accurate. good work mpan3!
Excellent piece, but for the leaves, it looks like a photo! What are the material settings on that floor that give you that nice diffuse reflection?
[Edit] Fix the leaves and I’ll give you 5 stars, until then: ****
Excellent work, can we see a wallpaper ?
it looks quite good! i’m particularly curious about that floor material too! also, i noticed in your wireframe you run blender fully anti-aliased! it looks gorgeous, your video card must be a hefty one!
Not necessarily, I do the same thing on a GeForce 7300 GT AGP 8x. I agree though, it does make things tons easier on the eyes.
Thast amazing, 5 stars all the way…
thanks for the feedback, I am rendering a new one as we speak. Hoever I am still now sure as the the placement of the third (the left-most) strawberry, should I move it toward the camera or just get rid of it?!
The floor is a simple raytraced reflection material with a ‘cloud’ texture as a normal map. Just rendered at an insanely high resolution with lots of AA
And yes shteeve, Blender with 16X AA does look gorgeous
(edit: I am using a 7950GT, btw)
And Jogai, once I finalize the design/scene setup, I’ll post a 3200x1800 version.
How do you change the in-blender AA and stuff?
I think its a good start but far from perfect.
To me, the strawberries look unnatural (by shape) overall, they kinda look “goofy” to some degree. The texture is definatly streached on the second strawberry at the top, and they all seem a bit streched overall.
The leaves are definatly bad, the edges on them are too simple, added the fact that they are plain green with no real thickness to them, they simply look like cut out pieces of frabric. The image would look ten times better with some realistic leaves, out of the whole image this part stands out the most and is the biggest eyesore.
The strawberries also seem to dip in at the leaves, making the first one look quite like a raspberry. I’m not sure, but I didnt think strawberries had such a distinct dip (infact, im not sure they have any? if only rarely) Also, stawberries start out white before they go red and there is usally a lil bit a white where the red /strawberry meets the branch /leaves if i recall correctly
Spec is almost perfect. Personally I would say it should be a bit more glossy. A more pinky-red and deeper reds should make the strawberries look more “perfect strawberry” these look more like your average pick and battered ones ;P.
And i expect you already know there shouldnt be any black on the back of that strawberry.
Not in Blender really, just tell your video card to anti-alias everything.
updated, i still gotta work on the leafs but i think it is getting there.
Cool! Very nice work. I don’t really like the focus that much but that’s just my opinion. Great material though!
Very cool, but I think the blur is way over-done.
Cuby
/agree cuby. It’s much improved from teh first one, but you should probably cut the blur back on the forward strawberry especially.
Wow! Awesome image Mpan!
How did you manage to achieve those highlights on the strawberries? Are those reflected?
Would love to see your material settings.
Did you use nodes for your materials?
