Subdivide

Ok - here’s the deal:

I’ve got a polygon string like this:

and I want to subdivide it like this:
http://mysite.reblended.com/kroopson/2.jpg
using just one command so I won’t have manually select verts, subdivide edges, delete some of them and create faces again.

The best I could get is:

seems like the following works:

goto editbuttons and press beauty
then W subdivide

this works best if the faces of the mesh are not square, but rectangles

beauty subdivide works along the loger (opposite) sides of a face

something else to try is to extrude half of your object (hold control this time), hide what is now selected, move (manually, though scaling and stuff helps) the verticies on the edge of where you extruded to where you wish them to be (probably in the middle, or so), deselect all, unhide everything, and move it back (holding control again)

umm, more detail I put at

Use the rusty knife script. One command… Cut!

subdivide your polys using the normal subdivide command… and you end up with a bunch of triangles, so… select all press ALT + J to join the triangles into quads. blender usually does a good job of knowing which triangles you want to join into a quad. this is the method that has me doing more serious modeling in blender. hope this helped.

Thanks pal. Thats exacly what I’ve been looking for. If I knew that before modelling of this

babe would take me half of a time.

thanks again man

Glad I could help. BTW I found out you only have to press J KEY to join the triangles into a quad! Nice model too, things should be a lot more fun now!
