Hello, i’m just arriving. i’m used to model in maya using subdivisions. I have some doubts that some google searchs and experimentation haven’t solved yet.
regarding the subvide row in blender:
what is “beaut” supposed to mean?
what is “short” supposed to do? reading the tool tip and experimenting with it did’nt give a clue.
Could someone post a step by step on how to make a “window” on a cube face?
Could someone post a step by step on how to make a “window” on a cube face?
There are many, but one easy way is to select the face, extrude (but dont move it, just hit the right mouse button). Then scale down and position. Now press x (or delete) and delete FACES ONLY. Then you have a hole. Woot.
Beaut = Causes ‘subdivide’ to split faces in halves instead of quarters using long edges unless ‘short’ is selected
This isnt true - I know its what the tooltips say and when I found it I thought ‘great’ a shortcut to the ctrl-r loop cutting when I want to divide a mesh with horizontal divisions. What it actually seems to do is long edge first, then next click divides short edge. Just half of the work subdivide does ie 1 subdivide = two beaut subdivides
I would have loved this feature to do ‘what it says on the tin’
Beaut does help. Why would you want to get rid of these buttons?
(and i still don’t don’t what the term “beaut(y)” is doing in this button)
It evens out the subdividing. If you have a really long face, and keep subdividing, it ends up reasonable res in one direction and ridiculous in another. Beauty helps keep them roughly the same.
