Subsurf on Multi User Data?

Hello.

I am currently doing a face tutorial (specifically, this one: http://members.lycos.co.uk/duxbellorum/get_a_head.html ) and I have run into the problem that when I attempt to subsurf my creation using the new Blender 2.40 modifier menu, I get the following error message:

Modifiers cannot be applied to multi-user data

I assume that this means that I can’t apply the modifier when I am using a mesh that was duplicated using Alt-D in object mode (to preserve from one object to the other). My question is - when I am finished, and want to apply the subsurf, how do I seperate the two objects, so that I can apply subsurf to each of them individually?

Thank you,

~J

Copy one of the linked objects with shift-d and then delete the one you copied from.

Ah yes…

Now that you mention that, it seems like a stupid question, lol. I was just wondering if there is a way to “de-link” them. But, this works just as well. Thanks!
