SubSurf troubles

hello blenderheads,
I am currently trying to model woodstock from “peanuts” and i was making it with subsurfs. for some reason, the surface is getting grooves in it from the mesh, instead of making it smooth… it’s hard to explain what i’m trying to do without a picture, and angelfire has kicked my image hosting so i can’t show you…

did you try recalculating (Ctrl-N) the normals? Subsurfs usually act weird if the normals are screwed up.


Are you getting the artifacts in a rendered view or in the OpenGL 3D view? Does your model include triangles as opposed to quads for the mesh? Is it an imported mesh? Have you Removed Doubles?
