I’m working with Blender 2.42a on a tutorial “Using Subsurf for Head Modeling” by Oliver Saraja. After subsurfing the model twice, he is asking on step 5 to delete half of the models face. I use KEYB in edit mode to select the half face and I can see the half of the face is selected because it turns yellow. Then I use XKEY to delete but it deletes the unselected part as well (deletes everything). I try all delete options (vertices, edges, faces) but the results are the same. My question is am I doing something wrong or you can’t delete portion of a subsurfed model? Thank you

Have you maybe still got bits of the other side selected as well? Normally you should still be able to delete part of a subsurfaced mesh, wait a minute, I’ll just check in Blender for any other reasons it might not work…

Do you have a mirror modifier on as well? That could cause this to happen.

If so, I’m guessing you have to Apply the mirror modifier (to make the mirrored vertices “real”) before deleting the half. I’m not familiar with the tutorial though.

Thanks for the answers. I only have my selection just a bit after the center line (I have done cuts before in other tutorials with no problem). However I have no experience with subsurf. I do not have a mirror modifier on because the tutorial does not ask for it.
