Suggestion

Can we get a help wanted section on this forum?

I am a renderer, modeler, rigger, and animator, and would love to team up with others and make animations or games.

To flush out pointless posts and spam. Create two forums. One would be called “Projects only” and the other be called “Talent offered”.

In the projects only forum, you’d have a template you have to follow or your post will be deleted. It’d include things such as,

  1. Project Name
  2. Information about project
  3. Type of project
  4. Talent needed
  5. Current team
  6. Previous work
  7. Website and Contact info
  8. Paid or free help
    etc.

Then in the Talent offered forum, people would post their skills and their experience. Like for instance mine is http://www.americanmadesigns.com/3dsite/
so people can browse your work and hire you if you interest them.

What do you all think? If we had teams going, we could really give back to the community and create some amazing blender things.

Having a small area to specific to organizing projects would not be a bad idea at all in my opinion.

Though I don’t believe there would be any need for seperate help wanted and talent offers. While Blender Artists is a great place for Blender users to connect to one another and for the most part that is what it is.

I simply don’t believe there would be a sufficient number of people looking for work on this forum to warrent a seperate sub-forum specifically for that. One section should be more than sufficient for both looking for help and offers for help. BA simply isn’t the place people come looking for employment.

Maybe there aren´t many looking because there is none?

I don´t see the problem. Making a new subforum takes a few clicks and hurts no one, you can even inherit the permissions with a checkbox. And there are almost 70k registered users, where I dare to say 50% are data orphanes, delete them and with the saved space make a subforum.
And it isn´t a new idea, it´s on the users wishlist now what? monthly for years?

Maybe there aren´t many looking because there is none?

Never know until it’s there and certainly a few clicks would never hurt, even if a small one is made under an existing section just to test the waters.

Either way I’m all for it.

I think it’s a good idea to start a help wanted section on this forum. In the posts I have seen, people come here seeking help on a project and then when they post they are attacked for putting it into the wrong section or category of the forums.

I think the community needs to realize there are people who want to come here looking for talent and potential employers that want to start recruiting from these forums. A help wanted section would give them a voice. Also, just because someone has a low post count, it doesn’t mean they are a scammer/spammer or someone who is looking to take advantage of the people here.

Though I don’t believe there would be any need for seperate help wanted and talent offers. While Blender Artists is a great place for Blender users to connect to one another and for the most part that is what it is.

Unfortunately, Blender Artists is not a great place for Blender users to connect to one another. I feel that a help wanted section would be the first steps to correcting this. I see a lot of put downs when people post asking for help with their projects and what not.

I bought the domain name “BlenderPortfolios.com” to do something like that. Never did. Nothing there, so don’t bother. So, yes, good idea.

I’ll sell it if anyone wants it, by the way.

Yeah that is one of the reasons I suggested this. Because there is no place to put projects needing help. It’ll keep getting moved and deleted because no section is for it.

Many people including myself don’t use blender for just fun and no point things. Many of us want to make actual real projects to be launched successfully into the world. Like making a full one hour animation and burning it on DVD and selling it, or making an awesome game and marketing it. That is the point to the help wanted section.

Unfortunately, Blender Artists is not a great place for Blender users to connect to one another.

Perhaps it has just been my experience here but for the most part the BA community has been more positive than negative. There are people on BA that for what ever reason feel the need to be complete jerks to other users, but in my experience the more active users on BA are nice individuals. Though sometimes discussions and comments can seem negative for the most part I don’t believe they are intended that way (see http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=202594&pagenumber=). I am aware though that there is negativity to be found on this forum and that people looking for help much more often than not don’t receive a positive response and adding a help for projects section could help.

Perhaps, if it’s possible, we could add a poll to this thread and if it recieve a positive response send a pm or email to the mods to add a Projects section.

i like the idea of a help wanted category(or for hire would be better, but less feasible.). And i think the poll idea is a great way to aproach making feelings known from the community.

A straight up assistance area would give alot of ppl who are between projects a place to bounce between personal projects, and offer more than just an example .blend. It also offers the opportunity for people to connect and network that may not otherwise.
