There’s probably a few comic geeks here who read “Kingdom Come”. If you didn’t, go get it.
One of the standout features is a truely new look a Superman. Alex Ross takes the character back to his roots in both appearance and attitude.
I’m a big Ross fan, and picked up his big ass book “Mythology” last week. The book featured decent turn-arounds for several characters. So a few scans later:
Ross does a nice job lining up most of the features, but he’s off slightly on the eyes on the side profile. I have to fudge a bit there. I give priority to the front view for the eyes.
Now I’m not a blender pro (I have most of my experience with Truespace), so there’s a lot of work and experimenting left to do. But I’m feeling like I’m off on the right foot.
One of the goals is to make his face look aged. He’s in his early sixties in this story. He’s going to have jowls and bags under the eyes. The streamlined look will be gone before I’m done.
looking good, it looks like your verts arn’t aligned with the crease between nose and cheek… (second to last picture) lines should follow that crease, it will make things easier to tweak later
edge loops and all that stuff…
Looking nice keep it up!! Not sure what its called but you could use a grid like image and apply it to the shape to see where the girids line up and then edit the grip picture to add your texture. Will someone that knows what I’m trying to say explain it please.
Thanks. Here’s my work. I’ve done it all without triangles so far, But i might cheat on that once I’m past the hairline so I can lower my poly count. You might think “damn he’s got a lot of faces in that forehead section”. But he’s going to look old when this is done, and his forehead will have lots of bumps - especially just above the nose between the eyebrows
Mostly focused on shaping. Also corrected a minor scaling problem (turns out there was ~5% difference in size between the size of the two images as they’re printed in the book ‘Mythology’)
Worked again arond the eyes. defined the orbit of the eye and brow, trying to bring out some wisdom lines. These will be asymetrical, and will be tweeked after I do a true mesh dupe and join. This is just a preview. I’m going to need to start working on bump-maps soon for the finer wrinkles.
Thanks, but I’ll repeat that I’m not as familiar with Blender as with some Windoze 3d software. I used to hack around in Truespace and had school in 3DS Max. I’m going to be asking questions like a noob later in this process. I know jack about Yafray other than it looks a shitload better than the built in renderer. Also in the back of my head I’m thinking that 64k vertices is a real problem because I’m likely to hit that before I’m done. I hope they’ve fixed that limit., or perhaps someone can suggest workarounds.
But as far as the sculpting goes, thanks. I’ll admit it’s looking better than I expected at this point. I still have a whole body and a cape to build %|
Anyways, with that I’ll call it and end to day 3. 'Night.
Yeah, it’s more defined at the edges than you would see in real life, especially on a 60+ year old man. But I’m going to wait on doing too much with the mouth until I see how it plays with the texture and bump mapping. Also I need to break the joined seam between the lips if I ever want him to have any dynamic facial expresions. ( ugg. Teeth. More work. )
I have some of the puffy features around the mouth that I see in my reference images, and at this point that draws my eye more.
Whew! That’s a relief! I can always buy more memory, but I can’t write software.
What version did they remove that cap? I’m working in 2.28.
