Support Blender monthly with their new subscription donation system

[withdrawn]

Sounds just like the little village (surrounded by bandits) wipping the hat around to hire some gun shooters to save them.

RiViT : Where can I find out more about this? I did a quick search of blender.org and didn’t see anything.

You can donate 5, 10, 25 or 100 Euro a month.
From the site : “Once activated, you can cancel a subscription anytime when logged in to your PayPal account.”

Here’s what Ton said about the fund on on Aug 2, 2011 : (LINK : http://code.blender.org/index.php/2011/08/blender-development-fund-fund-raisers/)

TON : “What I like to add to this is the “Blender Development Fund”. This is a special PayPal subscription system, allowing people to commit to a monthly contribution. This is expected to provide some sustainable income to pay for crucial development projects we generally agree on have to happen in more concentrated and focused manner. My proposal is to have the ‘bf-blender’ project admins to agree on who can get supported by this fund.”

Tweet form Ton about the development fond:

Development fund update after 12 days: 72 subscribers, EUR 735 monthly income. #b3d http://t.co/ZxQp3Dp Thanks! :slight_smile:

I think they should make this a sticky thread.

+1 totally agree! :slight_smile:

I have allready done a montlhy suscription :wink:

If I would have had a steady income I would have loved to donate monthly, however I don’t and I am fearing that some day I might not be able to put food on my plate because of this and I am sure that there are many others in my position as well.

I rather donate when I know that I will be able to support myself than being thrown out on the streets :slight_smile:

@NightJake

You can always cancel your subscription anytime then subscribe again when you feel like it.

On other notes: If you have a blog or website I suggest you put a link or make a brief article about this so that we can help the foundation spread the word.

Sorry : I did not intend to offend anyone and of course everyone is completely free to donate or not.

What I meant was that there have to be more than 40 people who easily can afford to donate 5 Euros a month (= 60 Euros a year or the price of 1 or 2 tutorials) which is very little compared to the price of other software and that is why I had hoped lots of people would have jumped on this occasion because if so it will benefit Blender development greatly.

@temujin143, I know that but I am a freelancer/student and when I get money is very unpredictable so I rather not risk anything.

(by the way, it’s NinthJake, not NightJake xP)

@dOMINUS, No offence taken :slight_smile:

Fund status now: 81 subscribers, EUR 845 monthly

Hmmm, should I withdraw my support for Skeptoid podcast (another micro-funded payment) and spend my cash here? What to do, what to do…

From BlenderNation : Ton reports Development Fund is reaching 1000/month. Will contact Jeroen Bakker to discuss OpenCL compositor project completion.

Blender is free and opensource. But I think if we want its development move a little faster everyone who uses the software and can donate should think about donating.

It will allow the foundation to hire developers who can dedicate their time improving the software.

Donate $5 a month and after ~60 years you’ve payed for a maya license :stuck_out_tongue:

lol. you’d be lucky if you live 60 years.

I for sure also think that this is a great idea - and a logical one to get even better feedback from the community.

But one thing I think is not the best solution, is that the monthly donations are fixed to certain amounts of euro.

I donate to Wikipedia monthly and they give you the option to give what ever you think is ok for you, besides the fixed donations :

It’s is working perfectly for me in this context. And I think it could be a more flexible and in some sense more ‘inviting’ way to get more people involved in Blender’s payed development :yes:

I wonder if there’s an in-between donation amount, like $50/month.
