SVT Cobra Mustang

This is my first WIP attempt at a realistic vehicle so I have a question or two for anyone who has done work like this before. Are the windshields usually made by seperating out the inner edge of the windows (ala the “p” key) or are they just modeled using the body mesh as a guide? Also, how exactly does one go about wrapping that neat bump map around the tires to make the tread pop out? cylindrical unwrapping?

Nice start there.

Some suggestions:

  1. Model pieces seperately, if possible. Like the doors, the hood, etc. They will look better in the end.

  2. For windows, just modelalong with the rest of the car and assign a different material to it for the glass.

  3. For the bump on the tires, try modelling the tread. It will also loo better.

assigning a different material for glass is a bad idea if using subsurf modeling. you can either model to fit or use the outter edge of the window and then sepereate it from the rest and fill in the faces. if you just apply a different material you will see where the materials blend together and with subsurf this will most likely not line up where you want it also its a bit of a pain to do in the first place ;).

tmtechie: Potentially this could happen. But if you plan ahead and place your verts properly, along with having nice bevels, etc., you can prevent the blending.

It is more work, but it is possible.
