Switch to object node

So when trying to use nodes for a material on my object, they arent applying to my object and I think its trying to apply to the world instead. How do i change this so the node is for my object? In the node editor i see some extra checkboxes and a world selection drop down


I cant seem to figure out how to switch this to apply to the object instead of the world. Never had this issue before when trying to use nodes for a material. Im sure its a rather simple thing but cant figure out what im missing.

Edit: So i realized that initially i started modelling in cycles and switched after a while. I decided to switch back to cycles, click a few things, and then went back to blender render and the node editor went back to what i usually see. Not sure if this was a bug or what exactly i did? Any ideas?

what is “type” set to under object panel and the display tab?

Have you tried ticking “Use nodes” in the node editor header?
