Heh: Nice concept, I could see how the machine could work, the textures and lighting is well done, though a little overdone on the bloom.
yeah i was worrying about that… but hey, it makes it ghostly
Nice, but one thing that sets me off is why sword isnt cut at point where it touches stone
Great work! Like the model and especially the textures. Personally I think there is way too much lens distortion and chromatic aberration in the image, and that makes it look kinda blurry.

what u mean “why the sword isnt cut”?
@Onegin, there is actually very little lens distortion… let me render other without it and see…
here is my noodle:

yes, i have 2 screens (my brothers pc is broken )
Oh, sorry, english is not my native language, i mean sword did not break at place where it starts to go out from stone, but above. Imagine putting a thin wooden stick in ground and pulling it from side, where would stick break. In most cases it would break at ground level.
we spent a long time discussing this in the WIP… trust me. its in the right place. a sword is a lot stronger than a stick, and a rock a lot stronger than the ground (usually)… its just right how it is i know some hectic physics people that helped me with that in particular
I updated the first post with the non-lens distorted one. Here is the original… i think you were right:
Do you suppose you could do some shards flying? The break looks a bit too clean.
Thats another thing we debated for a while… technecally there wouldnt be any shards. it would just snap… but it would look cool wouldnt it maybe i will later, but for now this is a finished project… if that makes sense
The image at the top is the new one. Its a good idea to read previous posts before you reply.
There is no lens distortion or chromatic aberation.
even if it isn’t physically correct I needs shards, You really need to create the illusion of motion, i think you should create a partical system of shards and use some vector blur to create the illusion of motion.
Nah, why not accomplish both, being correct and creating the feel that everyone is missing… what do I mean? Rather then an explosion of shards, let out an explosion of “magical energy”. Then you can hold true to no metal shards yet convey the force being released.
great idea… but i have no idea what the magical energy will look like, nor how to make it…
The quick answer is just do a sphere particle emitter and turn on halo to the material (stars, halo, lines, etc…).
A quick search on DA yeilded http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&global=1&q=blender+particle+halo#/d1on8jb
hmm… it looks interesting, but im going for a more realistic look… i’ll play around and see…
Haha, funny!
I didn’t mean that literally… I meant that form of setup. I also suggest that as the “quick” solution. If you want something more elaborate map sprites to billboards and hand draw the sprites http://www.blendercookie.com/2009/05/30/create-a-magic-wand-particle-effect-part-1/. … and I didn’t link this before because I am aware of your limited bandwidth…
haha, news of my limited bandwidth seems to be traveling fast
just looking at the screan shot of the vid seems to give it all away - it doesnt look that hard… it just looks to fake… not that magic can really be realistic… thanks for the help, but i’m busy on a different project, and after that there is school and a short film i’ve vowed to finish (one day)
