Sword

Started this with no intent ot finish it i was just board waiting for a friend to get here the other day but i liked where it was going so i thouhgt i could continue with it its not based after any perticular sword its completely fictional and as far as i know original so im not looking for crits on perportions of the sword and all those specifics like i have seen in some threads i strictly want it on modling and composition etc so whta do you think?

Reminds me alot of this.
Perhaps that was your inspiration?

your link just takes me to google with “punctuation” as the search ??? so im not sure where you are going with this lol…if it does look like another sword it is purly coincidence because i just made it from scratch…in fact ive never even taken an interesti n swords before lol

Looks a little like the sword from the Blender Tutorial. Nice inlaid designs!

ok, it was a hint to you to USE PUNCTUATION.Your entire first post has one peice of punctuation, a question mark at the end. its very irritating.

Very nice sword. The size seems more like a knife or dagger, however, perhaps an athame (ritual double edged knife.) I’d think the knife or sword would be nestled in a depression in the velvet lining the bottom of the box, rather than held in with clips, as it is now. The materials are very realistic: brass, ebony, mother of pearl, rosewood: very well done.
As to the modeling, many diamond cross section blades have a rectangular cross section near the hilt.

In knives this section is usually fairly short, in swords it generally extends further up the blade, but may not extend all the way to the edge. Quite often this section is engraved.

haha, yeah, sorry red_flag, I was just playing with ya a bit. I hope you don’t take offense.

The modelling is good, in seriousness. As Orinoco has said, good work on the textures. I also agree that it should be inset into the velvet, rather than clipped on. I think the end of the sword (where it begins to angle towards the point) is too long, or too sharp. Notice in the image above that it goes at an increasing rate, rather than a constant. I think that if you’re going to change angles, it shouldn’t be that noticable.

thanks fo the comments…as for punctuation i dont spend alot of time on the forums so i just send out quick posts with minimal effort lol…you might be right about laying the sword in an indent rather then having it suspended…i thouhgt it looked more like it was on display this way but i will see how i like it more as for right now i think i might model the case the other way too and see what looks better

well i just did a quick test of what it would look like if i had it set in the box…i know i dindt make an indent but its enought ot get the idea and personally i like the look of it propped up on an angle better then laying flat in the box i guess ill see what you think mabey if u all like the second way better i might work on it more and make the indent for it to sit in but i will take ur advice and on the next update i will have the length of the blade and obviously box as well increased

I think it would look better if you make the velvet indented as well.
