He’s looking really good, I just checked out the animation with him “chillin”, good job on the facial shapes. He also kind of reminds me of Totoro, at least in style, which looks very cool.
Have you thought of trying to use the blender hair system for some fur? It would look neat to have the hair short and tight to the body with some coloring variations. What color is your own real cat? Personally I think black and orange tiger stripes would rock, but that’s probably just my own happy memories of my own kitty when I was a kid, good old Tiger Puffs… I need a kitty friend…
hi Bapsis, thanks for the comments! the animation was fun, and i’d like to do more, only without the stylized filter i applied to the image. i had originally wanted to do hair when i made him a year ago, but couldn’t ever get it to look right. i also eventually developed him in Cycles, and all the materials and lighting are set up for that. is there a way to maybe render hair in a different scene and then composite them together? that could maybe work, although i guess i would have to match the lighting really tightly for that to work. or i suppose i could redo the lighting in textures in BI. any suggestions?
First off, Syd looks so chubby and cute! I bet he is well fed and happy.
And you can definitely comp BI and cycles renders together if you are needing a feature that cycles isn’t currently supporting (SSS, volumetric lighting etc…)
I also like the lighter grey that real Syd has, maybe you could shoot for that color in either the shader or the fur if you decide to use it. As far as animation, maybe he needs a nice mouse or ball of yarn to play with.
Man, that’s a fat cat ! Beautiful coat.
As far as your your character, he might have a hard time licking his behind( he’s a bit stubby) … but it sure would be funny!
