Tablets versus wacom cintiq

I always wanted to buy a cintiq but it is impossible for me in my country, with the emergence of digital tablets as the iPad, Samsung galaxy note, kindle and other supporting pressure levels as the cintiq and stylus pen whit pressure sensitive now I asking miself why the cintiq is so expensive and is only a touch screen and pressure levels support, but a table is more complete, have all integrated, operating system, multimedia, drawing software, email Bluetooth everithing you need and more.

for tables that do not support pressure sensitivity levels, there pencil with technology enabling pressure sensitivity levels stylus pen as the following:

What do you think about this:
Administrator sori for posting here feel free to move this to the correct place

A Cintiq is a lot bigger than most tablets, and pressure-sensitive styluses are still a relatively young development, which might need a little more time to grow up. Also, tablets don’t usually support the range of software available as used by professionals…

If i were to ever get a tablet i’d get one with Windows8 and it would be
the Pro model with a real processor. Not the RT version with Arm processor…

but… i dont have the $ for such things…
and i’d probably wait for the next few generations anyhow,
for proper pressure sensitivity built into the tablet.
(a portable “tablet” Cintiq with an i5 or i7 if you will)

I have both a cintiq and a tablet (asus ep 121)

Tabletwise the asus is one of the more expensive ones (maybe you can get it cheaper now),but I HAD to have the following features:
-at least same size as cintiq, that space is quite needed for productivity, almost A4 size (imo)
-Windows tablet to use the absolute same software as I use now on my desktop (I did install a dualbooted linux on it, with a bit of extra effort it can be quite good, sometimes headaches if you don’t know linux well)

For now I still prefer my cintiq to my tablet
My tablet is for when I’m not at home.

I ordered a stand , to make drawing on the tablet more enjoyable.
Sitting in a coach and draw with it is fine but to be truly productive I need a desk and keyboard, and my tablet at a stable angle.

I’m keeping my eye on the competition though

If you’re strapped for money and have a stable system with the right drivers, the yiynova might be a good idea.
at 300 dollars it’s quite more afordable then the cintiq. But With a few issues.
I’m hoping more alternatives come up,wacom has been getting too comfortable in its market leader position, and isn’t innovating as quickly as it could (or reducing prices…).

i think for a screen only wacom is very expensive regular drawing tables like intuos cost about the same as a samsung or ipad, and do not think the cost of manufacturing a wacom comes even close to an ipad or samsung galaxy.

Compare the price of a wacom and a tablet:

Wacom cintiq 22 inch hd pen display : price us$ 1,999.00
Wacom cintiq 24 inch hd pen display : price us$ 2,549.95
Wacom cintiq 12xw inch pen display : price us$ 999.00

wacon normal pen tablet:
Wacom Intuos5 Touch Large Pen Tablet:
price $469.00
Wacom Intuos5 Touch Medium Pen Tablet:
Price:$349.00
Wacom Intuos5 Touch Small Pen Tablet:
Price: $229.00

Digital Tablets:
Ipad 4 retina disply 9.7" : us$ 545.90
kindle fire hd 8.9" : us$ 299.00
samsung galaxy note 10.1" : us$ 549.00 whit pressure sensitive
samsung galaxy tab 10.1" : us$ 349.00 whit pressure sensitive

Pen stylus whit pressure sensitive cost between 80-100 dollars check on amazon
anyway to use a cintiq we need a pc or mac Because the cintiq is only a monitor screen whit support for pressure sensitive.

Wacom have creat a technology, Wacom feel IT technology works exclusively with sensors embedded beneath the screen in many of today’s cutting-edge tablets, like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. It’s a stylus with a thin tip that feels and performs like a premium pen.

A lot of professional artist i know do use tablet PCs as a portable cintiq.

If you are going to go that route, you need either the Asus EP121/B121 or the Samsung Slate 7. DO NOT CONSIDER ANY OTHER ALTERNATIVE. It wont be worth it nor will it work the way you want.

The asus and samsung are window’s pc tablets. They have built in wacom digitizers. It is the only decent alternative to the actual cintiq…and in many ways there are perks over the cintiq…including but not limited to better color range, whites, brightness and pixel density.

I own one of the few 20 inch widescreen cintiqs as well as 3 different types of intuos models… and I have used the the tablet PCs and found it far more enjoyable to work on than the intuos and cintiq. Of course it wont replace my cintiq just yet, but its a very good alternative which i find myself wanting to use more often than naught.

Hope that helps.

Seriously? As far as tablet PCs go lenovo is on the lead IMO. I know Lenovo’s not exactly cheap and they do not look like much, but I’ve been using my x61t for about 3 years now, and there are no problems whatsoever. The newer ones have good performance, windows and wacom technology for the stylus.

It’s also worth checking out used wacom tablets (the normal ones) on ebay, since there are probably a lot of wanna-be-painters who give it up and then sell their stuff there . Cheaply  .

Lenovo is NOT in the lead. Where did you come up with that assessment? Not only is it not up to date spec wise, but its battery life and sheer weight do not compare with the current iteration of tablet pc with wacom digitizers. Now there is a version they are working on now that hasnt been released, that may be worth getting later, but its not there yet.

For starters, because you are not just buying a monitor but also the PC system itself, you need a decent CPU. Whether its 2d or 3d asset creation, its tied directly to the power of the CPU. Take zbrush for example, more cpu power = more polygons you can sub-D up to.

Samsung and the Asus are the only two tablet PC’s worth getting as a cintiq replacement right now. Toss in a blue tooth mini keyboard and you have all you need for the best cintiq like experience without getting a cintiq. They are also a bit more reliable than the older cintiqs. The newer ones with LED back lighting are great and worth it if you have the money.

you can check: the samsung series 7 slate, small, portable, wacon pen enabled, and the battery is good, like 4 to 6 hours.
