Taking a break from Blender

Well, let’s say I’m going “on sabbatical” for a little while.

I’m trying to stay off the Internet as much as I can, so I can do the things that I used to enjoy so much, like losing myself in a book. Furthermore, I will also try to stay off my computer as much as I can, and a lot of my computer time involves getting nowhere on my various projects in Blender.

My first semester’s computer science class allowed me to follow a lot of Blender’s C code, so I started trying to do a crazy project involving subdivision surfaces. Of course, the first part of it turned out easy, but I ran into a brick wall when I tried implementing a new mesh data structure – I simply had no idea where to start coding that. If there is interest in adding explicit storage of edge data, I will post my changes; otherwise, I will keep them local, so I can work on the project myself when I have some more programming knowledge.

I simply haven’t had any time to create a properly researched tutorial list, so that project has sit idle too.

My yacht has gone nowhere; it will be much easier to do once I finish my subdivision surface project, so I’m not motivated to painstakingly add pieces that will be easy to make later.

Alltaken: I committed to rendering your project, so if you need me to do that, I’m still on board.

I will still answer emails promptly, but I won’t be around on #blenderchat or #blendercoders for a while, nor will I be posting or reading posts on Elysiun (I’ll miss you guys, but I feel it’s necessary for me to go off for a time).

Blend on! I’ll be expecting some good stuff when I return.
