Just got back from taking the kid to the theater. I have to say artistically & 3D was way cool and beautifully done! Great flick! I wince at the effort they put into the hair, I have to imagine that being an animation nightmare!
If you’ve seen the extras of Pixar’s The Incredibles, the hair should make even more of an impact. Back then, they had trouble getting that hair to work. It worked, but it wasn’t anything like Tangled… Granted, I haven’t seen Tangled yet since it’s not in the theatres here yet, but the few clips I’ve seen are breath-taking.
It seems like one of the most important people of those who made the impossible possible, was Kelly Ward:
Look at those “failures”… drool
Wow! Thanks for the vid link Endoperez. I’m amazed by the size of their team and what they accomplished, the hair in the movie was jaw dropping! I loved the style in the character art too and what they were able to accomplish with their facial expressions. Watching that video though and just imagining some of the math they had to come up with to translate to algorithm to get those simulations are just mind boggling. I should also mention the grass (and all the plants intermixed) was just as high grade. A scene with full grass, hair, characters and high quality textures, I can’t even begin to comprehend how much computing when into a single frame, it had to have been insanely massive!
They probably didn’t have full grass, it just looked that way: http://www.renderman.org/RMR/Publications/sig06.course25.pdf Read the section Normal Mapping: All the tree, none of the weight.
The nice thing about 3D movies is that you can take your kids to them and still enjoy them.
Saw it in 2D, it was a great movie to the point where it seems Disney has found how they can once again make excellent quality fairy-tale type movies. (I’d say it’s on par with the ones they made in the 90’s before the sequels started). They even brought back the original music and dancing scores that have marked their movies practically since Snow White.
I do like the extra detail that they were able to put in due to its use of CGI rather than hand-drawn animation, I think they struck a pretty good balance with the rendering style, I’d also say it’s a good thing when you don’t have to be a girl or child or watch the movie with one to enjoy it.
This movie was such a treat.
Funny, visually stunning, superb animation, likable and interesting characters. And I didn’t even mind the singing!
Favorite scene: right after Rapunzel got out of the tower. Hilarious with brilliant juxtaposing moments, one after another.
The reason for the horrible title, according to Wikipedia, is slightly understandable, but I still don’t prefer it. Just ‘Rapunzel’ would’ve been great.
Here in Singapore it’s released under the much better title: Rapunzel - a Tangled tale
I loved this movie! The characters were beautifully made, and the animation was perfect (Disney would be the ones to do it).
As for the story, it was amazing. Funny!
Awesome movie, and I also winced at all the hair simulation. Someone was very dedicated (or completely insane) to have to deal with all that.
i can’t wait to see this movie (believe it or not).
Since it’s Easter, I will disregard this resurrection. Don’t expect this to become a tradition.
Can someone please explain this policy that exists on almost all open source forums for me? To me it seems somewhat silly to direct new users to search for existing threads about topics and then warn them about it when they do just that?
It makes the forums confusing because it can cause a persistence of obsolete information.
Maybe, but responding to existing threads limits the number of false positive search hits when looking for technical support. Depending on the problem, that can lead to hours of reading hundreds of threads all asking the same question that go unanswered.
LOL thanks. I didn’t want to make a new thread when another one, similar, already existed. I get yelled at for doing this on almost all forums
