Teaching a class - need some advice

I’m teaching a 3d modeling class using 3ds Max Design to CAD students. Due to the fact that they are CAD students they are a bit more technically inclined than they may be artistically. I am a drafter myself so I know this to be true. As such, I am trying to expand their artistic horizons by showing them an art piece that is relevant in some manner each week.

This week I showed them “The Third and the Seventh” and it seemed to have the effect on some that I was looking to achieve. I hope that if I show them one each week then maybe by the end of the class I can reach all/most of them.

So, here’s my question: does anyone have any suggestions of good cg pieces that run around 15 minutes that I could show a college level class that would be artistic but yet still relevant to CAD work. More pieces like “The Third and the Seventh” are what I am looking for but they don’t have to be about architecture.

“The Third and the Seventh” is one of a kind; I would be very surprised if there was something that could be placed in the same group.

introduce the maxScript console to the CAD students before they fall asleep. Show them grasshopper for Rhino.

why actually do you not try to do it the other way around.
Let the student look for work and make very fast discussions
about the quality and significance of the work.

This way besides being impressed with preselected work from
your side they also can get an inside why they find something
attractive or not.

@cekuhnen
That’s a pretty good idea. I may do that. The only issue I can see is this particular group of people seem less than enthused about the art side of the equation (that’s why I am bothering with all of this) so they may bring in just some junk they found at the last minute. I may give it a shot though.

well I will promise some will - welcome to motivating students
I would assume that maybe credits for the presentation would be
good which could influence the class participation aspect.

you might also consider maybe having one student per class show the work
this way they have more time to find lets say 5 good and 2 bad pieces.

however you need to outline the criterias you want.

in particular did I found it important to demonstrate in a presentation with your
own work what you are looking for.

then you can also fully grade them on the level of research they did.
