Terminator / Banding problem.

Using Blender 2.65.

I’ve tried ever thing I could think of to stop
this from happening and I’m stumped. I’m honestly
surprised to see this in 2.6. Could be my fault though.

Here is an image that has had the Levels in
Photoshop adjusted to better show what keeps happening
in blender with the blender internal render engine.
It keeps occurring with Point and Area Lights. Sun looked okay.
Hemi and Spot I didn’t check.

I’ve included the blend file so feel free to test it out.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The scene you posted didn’t have a light in it. I added a light and, because of the scale of the objects, set the Energy level to 20 and it rendered fine.

Sounds like BI.
In the rendertab enable dithering to further disperse the banding.

Thanks for the replies.

I tried adding a new lamp/light and setting it
to 20 and there is still banding.

Also tried the Dithering and that helps.
Although it creates noise but I can live with it.

I got to ask, why is this happening? Any ideas?

Sorry, I can’t shed any light on it myself. I’ve never run into this problem and I always use BI.

Come to think of it, I always have Ambient Occlusion turned on (World tab, Ambient Occlusion: 0.20) so that may make the difference.
