Terrorcopters (Dystopian Short Film)

Hi everyone. This is a small sci-fi action short film I did for a new German-language YouTube channel. We aim to provide fun videos every week, therefore we are always a little short on time. For this project I took some extra days before we launched the channel but it was nonetheless done in (comparably) little time. My goal was to just get everything to a certain standard, where the models and textures wouldn’t be a strain on the eye. That is also why mere particles had to substitute for “real” smoke simulation for the most part, to keep render and baking times down. Well, enough with the apologies, I hope you like it anyway!

There are English subtitles available.

Hey there, this is quite awesome result! First of all I’d suggest doing bi-monthly (2 weeks each) video, so you would have that extra time with no apologizes needed.

If you mind, I’d like to give some feedback:

The scene is a bit too dark. Sometimes it’s OK but at sometimes when it’s darker scene it’s hard to see details as well as by those times those lens flares (or anamorphic flares?) are too big and covers main objects.

But overall it’s awesome work! I wish I could do that in few weeks. I barely can animate bouncing ball

Thanks for the reply! You are absolutely right with changing the schedule. After the first few (stressful) months we will probably have to do that. As for the critique: Once again you are right. I’m embarassed to say that the darkness and lens flares are (cheap) tricks to hide the lack of detail and simple geometry. I’m really looking forward to one day creating something so detailed, that these tricks won’t be necessary but that won’t be possible without help and much more time.
