Text on fire

Is there an existing tutorial for making text appear to be on fire?

I’ve seen a number of smoke tutorials, but none that explain how to make an object appear to be on fire.

I created some text, converted it to mesh, used it as the emitter, but the smoke completely covers the text, making it impossible to read. As a matter of fact, other text existing inside the domain didn’t seem to render.

Any tips?

Thanks.

Try emitting from a vertex group instead of the entire mesh. Put the mesh text in edit mode and select only the vertices along the top of the mesh. Add them to a vertex group. Then use that group to emit from. This way you can control where the fire originates. Other than that you may want to consider compositing. Which would be to render a clean version of the text then mix it back into the final.

Ok. I’ll have to give that a try.

I know I’ve seen a tutorial someplace where the monkey head was set on fire, but I can’t seem to find it again. That one may give me an example of what I need.
