Text set smooth is full of triangles


When I set smooth my mesh created from text or illustrator file, all of the triangles in the mesh are visible and distort the surface. I want to keep the shiny, reflective, gold look, of the set smooth object.

What do I need to do?

In Edit mode use W >> Remove Doubles. Then J to join as many tris into quads as possible. Cambo (search for his profile, or look in the Python forum) has a script to convert tris to quads.
