Texture display quality viewport/preview

Hello there,
is it possible in blender to set display quality(resolution) of textures in viewport and node editor (preview)? Something similar that is in 3ds max texture_quality
I would like to speed up viewport/node editor performance with bigger scenes but still keep textures displayed on objects.

user prefs (system tab) has a texture limit setting.
