Now to put this in Blender, map it the same way we did the sky, but in the “Edit Buttons” (while in “Face Select Mode”), click “Alpha” under the “Texture Face” tab.
Boy, I am totally confused by that? Probably a version thing. Can anyone tell me what it would mean in 2.43?
Buttons Window, Materials context, Textures subcontext, where you are defining the actual texture and loading the sun image. It is now UseAlpha meaning to use the alpha channel of the image loaded.
You’re totally confused because, before you were distracted by the old mare, the two cats, the dog and the canary, you were working on something for the GameEngine, yet you didn’t ask your question there. In UV/Face Select mode, in F9 buttons, in Texture Face tab the default setting in the mauve buttons is Opaque… change it to Alpha.
oh…now I get it. But that’s not how we did the other one, lol. Duh.
I guess there is a part missing from the tut.
I was just UV image editor ->image->open as was done with the other image.
Thanks Roger, now I can finish this tut too! I am so glad you are there to help.
Fligh:
Lol, no 4 cats 2 dogs one chicken, 1 old mare. I am still working on that silly candy wagon, and three other tuts. This was a Basic’s and interface question?
Oh, thank you for noticing. When I get stuck I just go on to another tut until I get stuck and perhaps by then I have the answer for the other challenge. It works, well kinda.
If I forget any of the answers or the questions, I do a search on me.
Hey Iti, Fligh made a good catch there. The image will render in the GAME ENGINE, but will not render using F12 because he never assigned a material. Basically he took the shortcut way of assigning an image texture to face without using a material for the game engine. The game engine does not use lights to light faces, so materials are not needed.
But if you tried that same sun image, textured to a plane and hung in it an rendered scene, you’d get a gray plane; you’d have to assign a material and then a texture channel and then the UseAlpha that I said. (and set the base material to alpha 0 as well) and use the texture channel buttons to map the image texture to color and alpha.
now THAT reminds me of an old black and white Hitchcock movie where the daughter starved the mother, and fed her the pet canary. btw, my cat thinks he’s a dog.
Yes, I realized the difference, one for the game engine and one for a render. Although I thought, I could bake it. Will think about that, some other night.
But I had clicked alpha instead of opaque, and nothing. But when I put it in the textures load image I can see it on the sky dome.
I still don’t understand completely how the tut works, and that may be because I’m tired. I was working on the roof today, yuk.
Oh,Hitchcock with Betty Davis, and cant remember her name, or the name of the movie. Baby Jane?something? LOL and a sequel.
Smart kitty, he gets to travel to more places that way, right? And guard his home and protect you.
omg, if there was a sequel, it was probably Children of the Attic, she was sooooo sick. You know, the movies today we think are so deranged, but starving your own mother, back in like, what, 1960, as a major film, opening the topic of parental abuse…so…avant guarde for the time. But you’re right, I think there was…she was married or something, and goes back to the house…? hmmm…so long ago…
But you know, mummy always gets back: Mommy Dearest!
I wasn’t allowed to see Baby Jane and had to wait till it came to TV. I couldn’t watch anything that even hinted at frightning, in any way. Too much imagination in my nightmares. Kept every one awake and I think I scared them too. You know, like I see dead people. Lions, tigers and bears, oh my.
Of course today we know those nightmares were caused by ice cream before bed!
