texture from parts of image

I’ve got an object that has a material that I want to keep. I’ve also got an image that has icons that I want to use on that material. I want to use the icons without having the base material an image, allowing me to adjust it later on. How can I do this?

What I want:

You want to use two texture channels. The top channel is the gray, and the second is the decals. The mixing mode depends on whether the decal backaground in transparent. If so, just Mix them to Col 100%. Other modes you’ll have to experiment with, but basically you want the decal layer to be on top of the gray layer.Good luck with your camera!

Or you can try your hand at the UV project modifier if you want to arrange those decals however you want in the 3D space.
