Texture maps

I was trying to figure out how to apply height maps, specularity maps, displacement maps and occlusion maps all over the internet, but not a single one of them simply explains how to do it in blender render (not cycles) and without nodes. I am not sure if this is possible, but if it is, please tell me.

Thanks for any answers.

Displacement maps = Best to use displace modifier http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.6/Manual/Modifiers/Deform/Displace

Add a material, with that material selected add a texture, select the texture, set the mapping (probably UVs), set the the option you want the texture to influence (colour, specularity intensity, geometry etc)

Add more textures to the texture stack to influence other settings
