I’m having difficulties finding good textures but does anyone know where i can download texture packs or get lots of free textures?
thanks for that
another one of the very best: http://www.cgtextures.com
edit: ah ah… too late
Morguefile’s got some!
(and don’t mind the creepy name. They say it’s some artists’ term for an archive of reference photography…)
There’s www.2textured.com, as well, but I wasn’t able to find out what kind of a license they’re releasing their textures under.
I’ve got a couple you can have…
check my sig.
The makers of Genetica have several free texture packs and also have free Wood Workshop and Genetica Viewer programs. http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/products.htm
Genetica viewer should let you render the textures that you can find posted in the Genetica forums. See the “Texturing with Genetica” section here. http://www.spiralforums.biz/index.php?act=idx
It’s a great program, and quite nice of them to share free textures with folks who haven’t purchased the software. Of course, if you spring for the software you can create pretty much any texture you can think of. I’ve got the Pro version and am a big fan - as you can probably tell.
Oh - one other thing. Genetica Viewer even lets you render the effects maps (for bump mapping) for the free textures. There’s a bit on this here: http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/viewer/index.htm
hehe, & the genetica textures are ALL included in my texture packs, use nor for bump mapping, all os users can access the textures through my packed .blends.
thanks for all these very good responses
These are great links. It reminds me that it would be good to have a ‘Resources’ sticky somewhere, that lists model repositories, texture sites, reference images, etc. Probably the best place for something like that is in the WIP forum, because there is only one sticky in there, hence there is space, and its also frequented by people who would find it useful.
If you have the funds buy some of the http://www.3dtotal.com texture packs, well worth the purchase. There are also some free textures there. I think newtek had some really great free textures too.
