Texture Paint Brush with Alpha

Is it possible to use a texture with a transparency layer as a brush for texture painting and if so, what’s the secret to getting it to work?

Well, first you’d have to go to your texture panel (in the properties display… the one where you can add textures to any material, the world, or a brush). Add a new texture image here, change the type to “image or movie”, and open your brush of choice. Then, in texture paint mode, you can open the texture paint settings (hitting “T” on the 3D View port), open the “texture” tab, click the image with a blurry checker board (pretty noticable if you’re doing things right so far), and add the texture…

One thing to note is that you’re model should be UV mapped and a texture should have been added to it in the UV/Image editor, otherwise (as far as I know), you won’t paint well… those are the BASICS of it… you’ll probably come along more problems, but some experimenting and online surfing will find you results.

Just follow online tutorials for this kind of stuff: http://blendernerd.com/texture-painting/

maybe this add-on can help you more. “texture paint layer manager”. you find it in the paint section in the user preference to enable it. In texture paint mode open the properties panel (N key) and it adds the textures to your material etc. and it can save them for you.

Thanks…
